Nino Cais (São Paulo, Brasil, 1969) begins his career in contemporary art at the end of the 1990’s when he enrolls in Fine Arts at Faculdade Santa Marcelina (FASM). There he made the “A Trama Refeita” exhibition as his final course work.
As a son of a sewist mother, the influence of the fabric and the seam emerged right at the beginning of his career when he made sculptures with knots in cloths. This has been a recurrent element in his work until today.
The appropriation of images, which are manipulated through different procedures and the use of daily objects, both in sculptures and drawings, collages or staged photos, makes up Nino Cais’s poetics, who uses various mediums to produce his works.
Nino has participated in different shows which are part of a national insertion circuit, such as Programa de Exposições do Centro Cultural São Paulo, Temporada de Projetos do Paço das Artes, Itaú Cultural’s Rumos Visuais, among others, and won acquisition prizes in exhibitions such as the ones hosted by Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia and Museu de Arte de Ribeirão Preto.
He also has participated in important exhibitions in Brasil, such as the 30ª Bienal Internacional de São Paulo, in 2012, the 3ª Bienal da Bahia and a solo show at Paço das Artes, in 2014. Nino has exhibited his works in Mexico, France, China, Portugal and Lithuania, where he attended the Kaunas Art Biennial.
