Alt Art Space hosts Moving Image Immersive Media’s special exhibition New Realities, featuring an international group of artists creating works in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), referred to together as “immersive media.” Addressing concerns such as how we perceive the world around us and what it means to choose one’s own reality, the artists in New Realities are at the forefront of a new fine art medium. As such they are collectively defining the emerging metaphors, vocabularies and ethics involved, but doing so by showing the viewer amazing new worlds or new ways to see and think about what “reality” means.

The works in the exhibition include a range of immersive technologies, from geo-located AR works to motion-sensing VR works that respond to the viewers’ body movements. Many of the works have been created or modified specifically for this exhibition, including Bomonti and AR, by John Craig Freeman which works only in the bomontiada courtyard.

Moving Image Immersive Media is a new arm of the Moving Image art fair, based in New York. Moving Image art fair was co-founded by Murat Orozobekov and Edward Winkleman in 2011 and was conceived to offer a viewing experience with the excitement and vitality of a fair, while allowing moving image-based artworks to be understood and appreciated on their own terms. moving-image.info
Alt Art Space presents visual arts, performance and public programs, collaborating across disciplines and cultures. Alt embraces and shares new forms of artistic expression that respond both to global concerns and changing conditions on the ground. Located at the center of bomontiada, a historic beer factory re-purposed as a public social space, Alt aims to allow multiple authors to invest in and shape its future. altbomonti.org

Alt Sanat Mekanı Moving Image – Çevreleyen (Immersive) Medya’nın sergisi Yeni Gerçeklikler’e ev sahipliği yapıyor. Yeni Gerçeklikler sergisi, dünyanın dört bir yanından sanatçıların sanal gerçeklik (Virtual Reality, VR) ve artırılmış gerçeklik (Augmented Reality, AR) ile çalışarak bizi çevreleyen dünyayı algılama biçimimiz ve insanın kendi gerçekliğini seçme yetisi üzerine ürettikleri işleri içerir. Yeni Gerçeklikler’in sanatçıları, yeni bir sanat mecrasının öncüleri olarak, izleyicileri farklı dünyalarla tanıştırmakta ya da “gerçekliğin” ne anlama geldiğini alışılmadık biçimlerde sorgulatmaktadır. Böylece, bu alanda şekillenen metaforları, kelime dağarcıklarını ve etik meseleleri belirlerler.
Sergide Claudia Hart (AR), John Craig Freeman (AR), Salvador Loza & Gibrann Morgado (VR), Christopher Manzione & Seth Cluett (VR), Will Pappenheimer & Zachary Brady (AR), Rachel Rossin (VR), Jakob Kudsk Steensen (VR) ve Deniz Tortum (VR) yer alıyor.
Yeni Gerçeklikler, Alt Sanat Mekanı ve bomontiada avlusunun coğrafi konumuna özel tasarlanmış (geo-located) artırılmış gerçeklik çalışmalarından, izleyicilerin vücut hareketlerine duyarlı sanal gerçeklik çalışmalarına kadar geniş bir yelpazeyi barındırır. John Craig Freeman’ın Bomonti ve AR’si gibi işlerin çoğu sergi için özel olarak hazırlanmış veya değiştirilmiştir.
New York merkezli “Moving Image – Çevreleyen (Immersive) Medya”, Moving Image Sanat Fuarı’nın yeni bir koludur. 2011’de Murat Orozobekov ve Edward Winkleman’ın ortaklığında kurulan Moving Image Sanat Fuarı, hareketli görüntü çalışmalarının anlaşılması ve takdir edilmesini sağlarken, canlı ve heyecanlı bir atmosferde görüntüleme deneyimi sunmak için tasarlandı. Alt, görsel sanat, performans gibi pratiklerin ara kesitlerinde programlar gerçekleştiren disiplinler ötesi bir sanat mekânıdır. Yeniden işlevlendirilerek bomontiada’ya dönüştürülen tarihi bira fabrikasının alt katında yer alan Alt, Türkiye ve yeryüzünde değişmekte olan koşullara karşılık veren yeni sanatsal ifadelere yer verir, paylaşımcı ve katılımcı bir kültürel platform oluşturmayı amaçlar.
