Moving Image Acquisition Award
Acquisition Funds to select a work from Moving Image for the Permanent Collection of 21C Museum Hotels
Moving Image is very pleased to announce details of the 2016 Moving Image Acquisition Award to be presented at the opening reception on March 3, 2016. This year, the Moving Image Acquisition Award will fund the accession of at least one artwork from the fair into 21c’s permanent collection.
The Moving Image Acquisition Award seeks to further the representation of video art in permanent public collections internationally. Previous Awards have gone to artsits Alessandro Balteo Yazbeck, Jessica Faiss, Rollin Leonard, Chris Doyle, and Kalliopi Lemos, and the 2016 edition will secure at least one work for 21c’s permanent collection. 21c Museum Hotel is an innovative venture founded ten years ago by preservationists and contemporary art collectors Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson in Lousiville, Kentucky. With the passion to make contemporary art a part of more peoples’ daily lives, the couple embarked on a journey to create both an economic driver for the community and an oasis where art challenges and amuses, stimulates conversation and provokes new ideas. Now a multi-venue museum, 21c now has additional locations in Cincinnati, Ohio; Bentonville, Arkansas; Durham, North Carolina; and Lexington, KY; plans are also underway to open in Oklahoma City, OK; Nashville, TN; Kansas City, MO; and Indianapolis, IN.
Moving Image co-founders Murat Orozobekov and Edward Winkleman explained, “21c Museum represents one of the most innovative approaches to collecting and presenting contemporary art to emerge in the recent past. We are delighted and honored in this, their 10th Anniversary year, to have 21c Museum present the Moving Image Acquisition Award. We are also very excited that work from the fair will be entering this impressive collection of contemporary art.”
