Through deconstruction of popular myths and ways of seeing, “In-Between” suggests a multi-layered approach to otherness as a new elaborate form of one’s self – where one’s own individual characteristics, defects and weaknesses become the potent elixir of transversal metamorphosis.

A dancing character is knitted and unlaced, interchanging skins, limbs and excrement, covering and exposing it’s inner movements and abject realities while defying the laws of attraction. It acts as if corresponding to visible and invisible strings that dictate behavior and appearance, binding and controlling the human spirit of the individual, while at the same time trying to sever those strings and lifelines.

The video makes use of two screens and the interplay between them. The screens echo each other at times, each reacting to what the other shows, they unite and extend one another to form a continuous medium and they at times mirror each other. The internal tensions between the screens also echo the physical and psychological tensions within the act of knitting. The physical action of knitting is therefore incorporated into the video and the way it is portrayed, magnifying the duality between obsession and therapy to such an extent as to actually obscure the borders between them.

Produced by Gil Yefman and Louis Vuitton Malletier, produced within the framework of “Otherness – I is somebody else” exhibition organized by Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton.
