Filmed at La Brea Park in Los Angeles, SNAP: Oil/Air/Water is the first in a new series of works by Leslie Thornton that extend the premise of photography into a framework of passing time. Leslie Thornton’s works address the interplay of cinema, video, installation and improvisation. She has exhibited worldwide at institutions, galleries and festivals such as the Serpentine Gallery (2013), Tate Modern (2010), MoMA (2011), the Whitney Biennial (2008), Documenta 12 (2007), Winkleman Gallery (2013 and 2011), Moving Image (New York and London, 2011), Marian Goodman Gallery (2007) and Barbara Gladstone Gallery (2011). Her work is in many permanent collections and she is winner of several prizes and awards, including the Maya Deren Lifetime Achievement Award and three Rockefeller Fellowships. Thornton is a professor at Brown University, in Rhode Island, USA.
